Therapeutic Support Staff

Therapeutic Support Staff (TSS, /θɛrəˈpjuːtɪk səˈpɔːrt stæf/) are professionals who provide one-on-one interventions to a child or adolescent at home, school, daycare, YMCA, or other community-based program or community setting when the behavior without this intervention would require a more restrictive setting.

Etymology

The term "Therapeutic Support Staff" is derived from the words "therapeutic" which originates from the Greek word "therapeutikos" meaning "serving to cure or heal", "support" from the Old French "suporter" meaning "to bear, endure", and "staff" from the Old English "stæf" meaning "stick, rod, pole, or bar".

Roles and Responsibilities

Therapeutic Support Staff are responsible for implementing existing behavior modification intervention plans and teaching and modeling the necessary behavioral interventions to the child, family, and other members of the treatment team. They work under the supervision of a Behavioral Consultant and in conjunction with other members of the treatment team such as Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and Social Workers.
