Uzbekistan (pronunciation: /ʊzˌbɛkɪˈstæn, -ˌstɑːn/), officially known as the Republic of Uzbekistan, is a country in Central Asia. It is one of only two doubly landlocked countries in the world, along with Liechtenstein.
Etymology
The name Uzbekistan derives from the term "Uzbek Khan", a title given to the leader of the Golden Horde in the fourteenth century. The suffix "-stan" is Persian for "place of" or "country", so Uzbekistan can be translated to mean "Land of the Uzbek".
