Workforce (pronunciation: /ˈwɜːkˌfɔːs/), also known as labor force, is a term used to describe all the people available for work in a particular nation, region, or company. The term originates from the mid-19th century, combining the words 'work' and 'force'.
Definition
The workforce is the total number of people aged 16 years and over who are either employed or actively looking for work. It does not include those who are retired, studying, unable to work, or choose not to work.
Components
The workforce is made up of two main components: employed individuals and unemployed individuals actively seeking work.
