Etymology
The name 'Zileuton' is derived from its chemical name, which is (RS)-1-(1-benzo[b]thien-2-ylethyl)-1-hydroxyurea.
Usage
Zileuton works by decreasing the substances in the body that cause inflammation in the airways. It is used to prevent and control the symptoms caused by asthma such as wheezing and shortness of breath. Zileuton is usually used for people who are not controlled by other asthma medicines or whose asthma is severe.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Zileuton include upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea, and headache. Serious side effects can include mood changes, insomnia, and liver problems.
