Blood pressure

Blood pressure refers to the force of blood flow generated by the pumping of blood by the heart.

The normal blood pressure for adult humans can vary from 119-140 in systole of the heart to 79-90 in diastole of the heart.

Each time the heart beats, it pumps blood into the blood vessels called arteries.

The term sysolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure refer to the two stages of the heart, systole and diastole.

If the blood pressure is elevated, it is called high blood pressure or hypertension.

A blood pressure reading of 140/90 or higher is high blood pressure.

Between a blood pressure reading of 120 and 139 for the systolic blood pressure, or between 80 and 89 for the diastolic blood pressure, is called prehypertension.
