Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine that deals with the anatomical structures that contribute to the normal digestive processes, and with the functioning of these structures. Given the diversity of disease causes or ethyologies concerning the digestive system, which can vary from : autoimmunity to infective agents, from congenital malformations to traumatic damage, gastroenterology can have significant overlap with other disciplines.


The Anatomy of Digestion

In order to gain insight into gastroenterology it is necessary to aquaint oneself firstly with the gross anatomy of the digestive tract and then with the processes of digestion
