Did you know?

  • 35 percent of all Americans have metabolic syndrome or prediabetes.
  • Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer that are some of the leading causes of preventable, premature death.
  • The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the United States was $147 billion in 2008 US dollars; the medical cost for people who have obesity was $1,429 higher than those of normal weight.
  • More obesity facts from the Center for Disease Control(CDC).

Obesity News

  • In September, 2014, the US FDA approved a new weight loss drug, Contrave within 3 years of approving Qsymia and Belviq.
  • Did you know insulin resistance affects up to 71 percent of the entire population in the United States? As insulin resistance leads to compensatory increase in a very anabolic hormone called insulin, it causes weight gain, especially in the belly and upper part of the body. Moreover, this also leads to the paradoxical metabolic starvation seen in the obese leading to overeating and weight gain especially in the belly and upper part of the body!

Failed Food Pyramid

Did the now withdrawn and failed USDA's food pyramid contribute to the rise in obesity? As the food pyramid advocated carbohydrates (read corn) over fats, failed to differentiate simple from complex carbohydrates, many experts strongly believe that the failed food pyramid actually contributed to the rise in insulin resistance, weight gain, and worsening of the obesity epidemic! Realizing this huge blunder, they now withdrew it after spreading the wrong information for so long as science! Even the new food patterns is flawed as they fail to understand what really causes the weight gain.

Are cereal grains humanities double edged sword?

In fact, a grain based, starchy, high glycemic diet may contribute to many other problems including nutritional deficiencies, auto-immune problems as cereal grains and can contribute to insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome. Read these articles on weight loss, role of exercise for weight loss, which only works in combination with a calorie restricted diet for weight loss, weight loss medications, very low calorie diet (VLCD), low calorie diet, behavior therapy, and other clinically proven measures to lose weight. Understand your food, nutrition, metabolism and check the nutritional value of food, including fast food and home cooked meals with few or no empty calories! After all, we become what we eat!

Exercise alone is useless for weight loss

It may be shocking to some, but the research is now very well established that exercise alone is useless for weight loss as reported on Time Magazine, New York Times, admitted even by Bally's fitness.

Stop blaming the victim for obesity

Instead of blaming the victim for obesity, or yourself, understand what drives the weight gain, and how to reverse it!
