Liposuction - (pronounced) (LY-poh-SUK-shun) A surgical procedure that uses a vacuum device to remove excess fat from the body. Liposuction is usually performed to flatten and reshape an area of the body to improve appearance. It can also be used to remove lipomas (fatty tumors that are not cancer) and to treat gynecomastia (the abnormal growth of breast tissue in men). It can also be used to relieve the symptoms of lymphedema (a condition where extra lymph fluid builds up in tissues and causes swelling) and as part of a breast reduction surgery
