Acuity

Acuity (/əˈkjuːɪti/), derived from the Latin word 'acuitas', refers to the sharpness or keenness of thought, vision, or hearing.

Medical Definition

In a medical context, acuity often refers to the clarity or sharpness of vision, also known as Visual acuity. It is a measure of how well a person sees. The term can also be used in relation to other senses, such as hearing, in which case it is referred to as Auditory acuity.

Measurement

Visual acuity is typically measured using a Snellen chart, which consists of lines of letters, numbers, or symbols in standardized sizes, with a designated distance at which each line should be legible to a person with normal vision. Auditory acuity, on the other hand, is usually measured using a Pure tone audiometry test.
