Mutations (changes) in theCOL17A1-Gen can cause the skin to be easily damaged. COL17A1Gene mutations have been found in an inherited disease called junctional epidermolysis bullosa. People with this condition have sensitive skin that blisters easily and may be at increased risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma of the skin
