CRP - A protein made by the liver when there is inflammation or tissue damage in the body. CRP levels are usually low or undetectable in the blood of healthy people. High levels of CRP in the blood can be a sign of certain conditions, including cancer, infections, inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. Elevated CRP levels can also indicate a high risk of heart attack or stroke. Measuring CRP levels can be done to help diagnose certain diseases, to find out how well treatment is working, or to determine a person's risk of developing heart disease. Also called C-reactive protein
