Economist
Economist (/ɪˈkɒnəmɪst/) is a professional who studies, develops, and applies theories and concepts from economics. Economists are involved in researching economic issues, forecasting market trends, advising businesses and governments on economic policy, and formulating plans to resolve economic problems.
Etymology
The term "economist" is derived from the Greek word "oikonomos" which means "household manager". It was first used in English in the late 16th century to refer to a manager of household affairs. It began to be used in its modern sense, referring to a scholar of economic theory, in the 19th century.
