ganetespib - (pronounced) (guh-NEH-tes-pib) A substance being studied to treat some types of cancer. Ganetespib blocks the activity of a protein called HSP90. This prevents the breakdown of certain proteins in the cells. Blocking the activity of this protein in cancer cells can help prevent cells from dividing and causing them to die. It can also make cancer cells easier to kill with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Ganetespib is a type of heat shock protein inhibitor
