Graduate (pronounced gra-du-ate, from the Latin gradus meaning "step") refers to a person who has successfully completed a course of study or training, especially a person who has been awarded an undergraduate or first professional degree.

Etymology

The term "graduate" comes from the Latin gradus, which means "step". The term was used in the Middle Ages for a university degree, which was considered a step towards becoming a master or doctor in a field of study.
