Krypton (Kr)
Krypton (pronounced: /ˈkrɪptɒn/) is a chemical element with the symbol Kr and atomic number 36. It is a member of group 18 (noble gases) elements. A colorless, odorless, tasteless noble gas, krypton occurs in trace amounts in the atmosphere and is often used with other rare gases in fluorescent lamps.
Etymology
The term "Krypton" derives from the Greek word 'Kryptos' (κρυπτός), meaning "the hidden one". It was discovered in Britain in 1898 by Sir William Ramsay, a Scottish chemist, and Morris Travers, an English chemist, in residue left from evaporating nearly all components of liquid air.
