LAMB3 gene - (pronounced) (. . . jeen) A gene that makes up one of the three subunits of a protein involved in cell growth, cell movement, and cell attachment. This protein protects the skin from damage and may be involved in wound healing and the formation of tooth enamel and the cornea (the clear outer covering of the eye). Mutations (changes) in the LAMM3 gene have been found in an inherited condition called junctional epidermolysis bullosa, which causes the skin to crack and blister easily. People with this condition have an increased risk of developing skin cancer
