Osteomalacia - (pronounced) (OS-tee-oh-moo-LAY-shuh) condition in adults where bones become soft and deformed because they do not have enough calcium and phosphorus. It's usually caused by not enough vitamin D in the diet, not enough sunlight, or a problem with the way the body uses vitamin D. Symptoms include bone pain and muscle weakness. If the disease occurs in children, it is called rickets. Also called adult rickets
