Cookery (kʊkəri)

Cookery is the art, practice or work of cooking. It encompasses a vast range of methods, tools and combinations of ingredients to improve the flavor or digestibility of food. It generally requires the selection, measurement and combining of ingredients in an ordered procedure in an effort to achieve the desired result.

Etymology

The term "cookery" originates from the Latin word coquere meaning "to cook". The practice of cookery is believed to date back to the prehistoric times, with the discovery of fire.
