It binds to newly formed bone. A biopsy is performed and bone growth is measured with a special microscope. Demeclocycline hydrochloride also blocks water absorption by the kidneys and can bind calcium in bones. It's a type of tetracycline antibiotic and a type of bone marker. Also called declomycin
