Summary[edit]

Summary
Description Stacked column chart showing annual loss of tree cover, globally, based on World Resources Institute data published on Mongabay.

Different from source's chart: the present chart uses downward-projecting bars, and re-orders the sequence of the four data series so that regions are in order from pole to equator: Boreal, Temperate, Sub-tropical, and Tropical.

Version 12: data source including 2024 data: https://research.wri.org/gfr/forest-extent-indicators/forest-loss Archives for 2024: https://web.archive.org/web/20250701185416/https://gfr.wri.org/forest-extent-indicators/forest-loss and https://archive.ph/C7QM3 Version 11: data source including 2023 data: https://research.wri.org/gfr/forest-extent-indicators/forest-loss Archives during 2024: https://web.archive.org/web/20240527180607/https://research.wri.org/gfr/forest-extent-indicators/forest-loss and https://archive.ph/A8Qye Version 9: data source including 2022 data: https://research.wri.org/gfr/forest-extent-indicators/forest-loss Archive of 12 July 2023: https://web.archive.org/web/20230712025528/https://research.wri.org/gfr/forest-extent-indicators/forest-loss, and 2 August 2023: https://archive.ph/IPNL7 Version 7: data source including 2021 data: https://research.wri.org/gfr/forest-extent-indicators/forest-loss (includes four categories versus two categories for last year's version). Archive of 1 Sept 2022: https://web.archive.org/web/20220901033248/https://research.wri.org/gfr/forest-extent-indicators/forest-loss In Version 7, I changed the order of the categories to be sequential (start with poles, work toward equator): Boreal, Temperate, Subtropical, Tropical.
