DescriptionTypes of granulocytes.png
English: Granulocytes are myeloid cells of the innate immune system that circulate in the blood and lymph to recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMP). Granulocytes recognize PAMPs with their pathogen recognition receptors (PRRs). When a PAMP presence is recognized, granulocytes secrete granules. Granules are stored in granulocytes until their release, a process called degranulation, and are made of cytotoxic molecules, including enzymes and antimicrobial peptides.
Granulopoiesis is the development of granulocytes from the hematopoietic stem cells including the differentiation from myeloblasts and common myeloid progenitors.
