Summary

Description
English: A Tzanck smear is a microscopic examination of cells taken from a skin lesion or ulcer to diagnose certain viral infections, such as herpes simplex virus or varicella-zoster virus. Giemsa staining is a common staining technique used in microbiology and cytology to enhance the visibility of cell structures and pathogens. The cells and nuclei would be stained with Giemsa stain, which often imparts a purplish-blue color to the nuclei and a pinkish-red color to the cytoplasm.
