Summary[edit]

Summary
Description A 'Zeeuwse bolus' is a sweet baked bread from the Netherlands, a speciality from the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a sweet bread which is covered with caramelised sugar and ground sweet spices, especially cinnamon. A good 'bolus' should still be spongy and elastic even after having been baked.

In the province of Zeeland, it is often eaten with (salted Zeeland) butter in the afternoon, together with a cup of coffee. The photo shows one 'bolus' spread with butter, the other still without.

The delicacy is, supposedly, of Dutch-Sephardic origin.
