List of Flexors of the Human Body
The human body is composed of a complex network of muscles that allow for movement and flexibility. Among these muscles are the flexors, which are responsible for bending or flexing various parts of the body. Upper Body Flexors
Flexors of the Arm
- Biceps Brachii: This muscle is located in the upper arm and is responsible for flexing the elbow and rotating the forearm.
- Brachialis: Situated underneath the Biceps Brachii, the Brachialis also aids in elbow flexion.
- Brachioradialis: This muscle, located in the forearm, assists in flexing the elbow when the forearm is in a mid-prone position.
Flexors of the Hand and Fingers
- Flexor Carpi Radialis: This muscle extends from the forearm to the base of the second and third metacarpals, flexing and abducting the wrist.
- Flexor Carpi Ulnaris: Located on the ulnar side of the forearm, this muscle flexes and adducts the wrist.
- Flexor Digitorum Superficialis and Flexor Digitorum Profundus: These muscles are responsible for flexing the fingers.
Lower Body Flexors
Flexors of the Thigh
- Iliopsoas: This group of muscles, composed of the Psoas Major, Psoas Minor, and Iliacus, is responsible for flexing the hip.
- Rectus Femoris: Part of the Quadriceps Femoris, this muscle flexes the hip and extends the knee.
Flexors of the Leg
- Gastrocnemius: This calf muscle flexes the knee and plantarflexes the ankle.
- Soleus: Located deep to the Gastrocnemius, the Soleus also plantarflexes the ankle.
Flexors of the Foot and Toes
- Flexor Digitorum Longus: This muscle flexes the toes and plantarflexes the ankle.
- Flexor Hallucis Longus: This muscle flexes the big toe and also assists in plantarflexing the ankle.
