Papules
Papules
Papules (/ˈpæpjuːlz/; from Latin papula, "pimple") are small, raised, solid pimples or bumps that are less than 1 cm in diameter. They are a type of lesion that is observable on the skin. Unlike pustules, papules do not contain pus.
Causes
Papules can be caused by a variety of conditions, including acne, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and skin cancer. They can also be a symptom of certain infectious diseases, such as chickenpox or measles.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of papules typically involves a physical examination by a dermatologist. In some cases, a biopsy may be performed to rule out conditions such as skin cancer.
Treatment
Treatment for papules depends on the underlying cause. For example, acne-related papules may be treated with topical medications, while papules caused by an infectious disease may require antiviral or antibiotic treatment.
