The People's Republic of China (PRC) (pronunciation: /ˈpiːpəlz rɪˈpʌblɪk ɒv ˈtʃaɪnə/), commonly known as China, is a country in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of more than 1.4 billion.
Etymology
The term "People's Republic of China" is a direct translation of the Chinese name "中华人民共和国" (Zhōnghuá Rénmín Gònghéguó). The term "Zhōnghuá" refers to the concept of a unified Chinese nation, while "Rénmín Gònghéguó" means "people's republic".
