History
The hospital's history dates back to 1832, with the founding of the Boston Lying-In Hospital, one of the nation's first maternity hospitals. In 1913, the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, a facility dedicated to providing medical care to the poor, was established through a bequest from the estate of Peter Bent Brigham. In 1969, the Boston Hospital for Women, a merger of the Boston Lying-In Hospital and the Free Hospital for Women, was established.
