Wings (pronunciation: /wɪŋz/) is a term used in various medical contexts. It is derived from the Old English 'winge', meaning 'a wing'.

Anatomy

In Anatomy, wings can refer to several structures that extend outwards from a central body, similar to the wings of a bird. For example, the Ala of sacrum is often referred to as the 'wings' of the sacrum. Similarly, the Pterygoid processes of the sphenoid bone in the skull are sometimes called the 'wings' of the sphenoid.

Psychiatry

In Psychiatry, the term 'wings' is used metaphorically to describe the sensation of feeling light or buoyant, often associated with certain mental health conditions such as Bipolar disorder.
