19-Nortestosterone
19-Nortestosterone (pronunciation: 19-Nor-tes-tos-ter-one), also known as Nandrolone, is a synthetic, anabolic steroid that is used in the treatment of anemia, osteoporosis, and some forms of neoplasia including breast cancer, and also acts as a progestin-based contraceptive.
Etymology
The term "19-Nortestosterone" is derived from its chemical structure, which consists of the steroid testosterone, but lacks a carbon atom at the 19th position.
Pharmacology
19-Nortestosterone is a progestin and a 17α-alkylated anabolic steroid which is used in the form of esters such as Nandrolone decanoate (brand name Deca-Durabolin) and Nandrolone phenylpropionate (brand name Durabolin).
Medical Uses
19-Nortestosterone is used in the treatment of anemia, osteoporosis, and some forms of neoplasia including breast cancer. It is also used as a progestin-based contraceptive.
