American Society of Nephrology

The American Society of Nephrology (pronunciation: A-mer-i-can So-ci-ety of Ne-phro-lo-gy) is a professional organization that aims to enhance and assist the study and practice of nephrology, which is the branch of medicine concerned with the kidneys.

Etymology

The term 'nephrology' comes from the Greek words 'nephros' which means kidney, and 'logia' which means study of. The term 'American Society of Nephrology' signifies a society based in America that is dedicated to the study of kidneys.

History

The American Society of Nephrology was founded in 1966 with the goal of advancing the treatment of kidney diseases and improving the lives of individuals suffering from these diseases.

Activities

The society organizes annual meetings, provides education and research opportunities, and publishes two journals: the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN) and the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN).
