Applied Ethics

Applied Ethics (pronounced: uh-plied eh-thiks) is a branch of Ethics that deals with ethical questions specific to a professional, disciplinary, or practical field.

Etymology

The term "Applied Ethics" originates from the Greek word "ethikos" which means "arising from habit". It is a combination of the words "applied", meaning put to practical use, and "ethics", referring to moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity.

Definition

Applied Ethics is the philosophical examination, from a moral standpoint, of particular issues in private and public life that are matters of moral judgment. It is thus a term used to describe attempts to use philosophical methods to identify the morally correct course of action in various fields of human life.
