Authority (pronounced: au·thor·i·ty, /ɔːˈθɒrɪti/) in the context of medicine, refers to the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience within a healthcare setting. The term is derived from the Latin word 'auctoritas', meaning 'invention', 'advice', 'opinion', 'influence', or 'command'.
