A Bar (pronunciation: /bɑːr/) is a retail business establishment that serves alcoholic beverages, such as beer, wine, liquor, and cocktails, for consumption on the premises.

Etymology

The term "Bar" is derived from the specialized counter on which drinks are served. The "bar" refers to the metal or wooden bar that is often located at chest height for the bartender behind which the drinks are served.
