A COVID-19 hospital (/koʊvɪd naɪnˈtiːn hɒˈspɪtəl/) is a healthcare facility specifically designated and equipped to treat patients suffering from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Etymology

The term "COVID-19" is derived from COronaVIrus Disease 2019, the year the disease was first identified. The term "hospital" comes from the Latin hospes, meaning a stranger or foreigner, and later a guest. It was later applied to the charitable institutions for the needy, sick, and homeless, and then to modern medical facilities.

Description

COVID-19 hospitals are equipped with necessary medical equipment such as ventilators, oxygen concentrators, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to handle the influx of patients during the pandemic.
