Cerefolin

Cerefolin (pronunciation: /sɛrɛfəlɪn/) is a prescription medication used primarily in the management of certain types of memory loss and mild cognitive impairment.

Etymology

The term "Cerefolin" is a combination of "cerebro-" from the Latin cerebrum meaning brain, and "-folin" from folate, a type of B vitamin. This reflects the medication's function in supporting brain health and its vitamin-based composition.

Usage

Cerefolin is often prescribed to patients with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. It is also used in the treatment of hyperhomocysteinemia, a condition characterized by an abnormally high level of homocysteine in the blood, which is associated with a higher risk of heart disease and stroke.

Composition

Cerefolin is a combination of three active ingredients: L-methylfolate, methylcobalamin (a form of vitamin B12), and N-acetylcysteine. These ingredients work together to lower homocysteine levels in the blood and support overall brain health.
