China (Medicine)

China (pronunciation: /ˈtʃaɪnə/), in the context of medicine, refers to the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. The term "China" in medicine is often used to denote the origin and the cultural background of such practices.

Etymology

The term "China" in English comes from the Persian word "Chin", which was derived from the Sanskrit word "Cina". It was used to refer to the nation in East Asia as known today. Herbal Medicine

Herbal Medicine in China involves the use of different parts of plants such as the leaves, roots, stems, flowers, and seeds. Some of the most commonly used herbs in TCM include ginseng, goji berry, dong quai, and astragalus.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of treatment that involves inserting very thin needles through a person's skin at specific points on the body, to various depths. It is most commonly used to treat pain and is increasingly being used for overall wellness, including stress management.

Massage (Tui Na)

Tui Na is a hands-on body treatment that uses Chinese taoist principles in an effort to bring the eight principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine into balance.

Qigong

Qigong is a system of coordinated body-posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for the purposes of health, spirituality, and martial-arts training.

Dietary Therapy

Dietary therapy in TCM involves the use of diet to prevent and treat illness. The therapy is based on the principles of balance and harmony, and uses the concepts of yin and yang, the five elements, and the eight principles to create a balanced diet.
