Crohn's and Colitis Canada (pronunciation: /krɒnz ænd kəˈlaɪtɪs kænədə/) is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization in Canada that aims to find the cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and to improve the lives of children and adults affected by these diseases.

Etymology

The organization is named after Dr. Burrill B. Crohn, who first described Crohn's disease in 1932, and the term "colitis" which is derived from the Greek words "kolon" meaning colon and "-itis" meaning inflammation.

History

Crohn's and Colitis Canada was established in 1974 by a group of concerned parents of children with IBD. The organization has grown to become a world leader in non-government funded research in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Mission

The mission of Crohn's and Colitis Canada is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to enhance the quality of life of children and adults affected by these chronic diseases.
