Cruelty-free

Cruelty-free (/ˈkruːəltiː friː/) is a term that refers to products or activities that do not harm or kill animals. The term is most commonly used in the context of cosmetics, household products, and fashion.

Etymology

The term "cruelty-free" was first used in this context by the animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in the 1980s. It was used to promote products that were not tested on animals.
