Decapitation (pronounced: /ˌdɛkæpɪˈteɪʃən/) is the act of removing the head from the body. This can occur either due to natural disasters, accidents, or as a deliberate act of violence or execution.

The term "decapitation" comes from the Latin decapitare, which is derived from de- meaning "down" or "away" and caput meaning "head".
