dense chest - (pronounced) (dented chest) A term used to describe breast tissue that has more fibrous and glandular tissue than adipose tissue. Dense breast tissue can only be seen on a mammogram. Dense breast tissue can make it harder to detect breast cancer or other breast changes on a mammogram. Women with dense breast tissue have a higher risk of breast cancer than women with predominantly fatty or less dense breast tissue. Dense breast tissue is common, especially in younger women and in women undergoing hormone therapy for menopause
