Devra Davis

Devra Davis (pronounced: DEH-vrah DAY-vis) is an American epidemiologist and writer, known for her work on disease prevention and environmental health factors. She is the author of several books on public health and policy, and is the founder and president of the Environmental Health Trust, a non-profit organization dedicated to studying and controlling environmental health risks.

Etymology

The name Devra is of Hebrew origin and means "bee". Davis is a common surname of English and Welsh origin, meaning "son of David".

Career

Davis has had a long and distinguished career in public health. She served as the Founding Director of the Board on Environmental Studies and Toxicology of the U.S. National Research Council, and was a Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. She also served as a Lead Author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — the group awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 with Al Gore.

Publications

Davis is the author of several influential books on environmental health and disease prevention, including "When Smoke Ran Like Water", "The Secret History of the War on Cancer", and "Disconnect: The Truth About Cell Phone Radiation". Her work has been translated into more than a dozen languages and has been used in courses at several universities and colleges worldwide.
