Exercising (pronunciation: /ˈeksərˌsīziNG/) is a physical activity that is planned, structured, and repetitive for the purpose of conditioning any part of the body. It is used to improve health, maintain fitness and is important as a means of physical rehabilitation.

Etymology

The term "exercise" comes from the Latin exercitus, past participle of exercere, meaning "to drive forth, lead out, march out, exercise".

Types of Exercise

There are several types of exercise, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. These include:

  • Overtraining: Exercising too much without giving your body time to recover can lead to a variety of health problems, including decreased immune function, hormonal imbalances, and decreased mental well-being.
