idarubicin hydrochloride - (pronounced) (I-duh-ROO-bih-sin HY-droh-KLOR-ide) A drug used with other drugs to treat adults with acute myeloid leukemia. It is also being studied in the treatment of other types of cancer. Idarubicin hydrochloride blocks a specific enzyme needed for cell division and DNA repair and can kill cancer cells. It's a type of anthracycline antibiotic and a type of topoisomerase inhibitor. Also called 4-demethoxydaunorubicin and idamycin PFS
