infantile hemangiopericytoma - (pronounced) (IN-fun-TILE hee-MAN-jee-oh-PAYR-ih-sy-TOH-muh) A rare type of soft-tissue tumor that begins in cells lining blood vessels . Infantile hemangiopericytomas can be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). They usually appear in infants and young children, but they can also be detected by ultrasound before birth. They can appear anywhere on the body but usually appear in the arms, legs, pelvis, or head and neck. In children older than 1 year, infantile hemangiopericytomas are more likely to spread to other parts of the body, including the lymph nodes and lungs. Children under 1 year old may have a better prognosis
