Jock

Jock (/dʒɒk/), in North American English, is a stereotype of an athlete, or someone who is primarily interested in sports and sports culture, and does not take much interest in intellectual culture. It is generally attributed to an enthusiastic athlete.

Etymology

The term "Jock" comes from the traditional Scottish and Northern English diminutive of the forename "John", which is "Jock". In North America, "Jock" has taken on a broader meaning, referring to athletes and sports enthusiasts.
