Kraft Foods Inc. (/kræft/; from German: Kraft, "strength") is an American multinational confectionery, food and beverage conglomerate. It was founded in 1923 by James L. Kraft, who started a wholesale door-to-door cheese business in Chicago. The company became Kraft Foods Inc. in 1990 and was later acquired by Philip Morris Companies (now Altria) in 1988 and then by Mondelez International in 2012.
