Mackay Medical College

Mackay Medical College (pronunciation: məˈkaɪ) is a private medical college located in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The college was established in 2009 and is named after George Leslie Mackay, a Canadian missionary who contributed significantly to the development of modern medicine in Taiwan.

Etymology

The name "Mackay" is of Scottish origin, derived from the Gaelic "MacAoidh", which means "son of fire". The college was named in honor of George Leslie Mackay, who was a prominent figure in the history of Taiwan's medical education.

History

George Leslie Mackay was a Canadian Presbyterian missionary who arrived in Taiwan in 1872. He established the first modern hospital in northern Taiwan, Tamsui Oxford College Hospital, and trained the first generation of western-style doctors in Taiwan. In recognition of his contributions, the Mackay Medical College was established in 2009.

Curriculum

The curriculum at Mackay Medical College is designed to train students in the latest medical techniques and technologies. The college offers a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, as well as postgraduate programs in various medical specialties.

Affiliations
