A Mobile App (pronounced /ˈmoʊbəl æp/), short for Mobile Application, is a type of Application Software designed to run on a Mobile Device, such as a Smartphone or Tablet Computer. Mobile apps are often created to provide users with similar services to those accessed on PCs.
Etymology
The term "Mobile App" is a portmanteau of the words "Mobile" (meaning movable) and "App" (a shortened form of application). The term was first used in the late 20th century, coinciding with the rise of mobile technology.
