Rajshahi Medical College
Rajshahi Medical College (pronunciation: rɑːdʒʃɑːhiː mɛdɪkəl kɒlɪdʒ) is a prestigious institution for medical education in Bangladesh. It is located in Rajshahi, a city in the northwestern part of the country.
Etymology
The name "Rajshahi" comes from the Bengali word "Raj", meaning "kingdom", and "Shahi", meaning "royal". The "Medical College" part of the name refers to the institution's focus on medical science and healthcare education.
History
Rajshahi Medical College was established in 1958, making it one of the oldest medical colleges in Bangladesh. It was the second medical college to be established in the then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh.
Courses
The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various fields of medicine and surgery. The undergraduate course, leading to a MBBS, is a five-year course followed by a one-year internship in the college's associated hospital.
