Sanjay Gupta

Sanjay Gupta (/ˈsɑːndʒeɪ ˈɡuːptə/, SAN-jay GOOP-tə) is an American neurosurgeon and medical reporter. He serves as associate chief of the neurosurgery service at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, and as assistant professor of neurosurgery at the Emory University School of Medicine. He is also the chief medical correspondent for CNN.

The name Sanjay is of Sanskrit origin and means "victorious," while Gupta is a common Indian surname meaning "protector" or "governor."

Gupta joined CNN in the summer of 2001. He reported from New York City in the wake of the September 11 attacks and has covered numerous other significant events and issues, including the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, and the H1N1 flu pandemic in 2009.

In addition to his work for CNN, Gupta is a practicing neurosurgeon. He performs surgery at Emory University Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital, where he serves on staff.
